Manures that can be used for Bonsai planting

Manuring Bonsai
Neem cake
Chemical fertilizers invite pests, diseases. If chemical fertilizers are applied a little bit excess, scorching of roots will result and plants will collapse. This is be- cause the roots are in an enclosed environment. Chemical fertilizers burn the moss that cover the soil. So organic manures are usually applied to Bonsai plants. Neem cake is the better option as it has some insecticidal action. Direct application of neem cake is not advised. Dissolve 1 kg of neem cake in 10 ltr water. Stir well once a day. Cover the bucket. After one week the neem cake is fermented and ready to use. Take 250 ml of the liquid manure and drench the soil. Eggs and larvae of any in- sects in the soil will also be destroyed. It is also good for control of mealy bugs on roots in soil. Repeat this once in a month.

After re-potting no need of manures for two months. Bonsai plants with flowers & fruits require more nutrition. Apply 50 gm of bone meal in the pot for a flowering or fruiting plant. Avoid feeding while tree is flowering. If feeding, the flowers or fruits will drop off. Flowering and fruiting plants require more phosphorous & potassium. Bone meal is rich in phosphorus. Wood ash contains more potassium up to 6 - 8 %. So apply 50 - 100 gms. of wood ash directly to such plants. Add 1 kg of wood ash + 1 kg of fresh cow dung + 1 kg Neem cake + 1 kg bone meal to 20 ltr. of water for fermentation. Keep it for 1 week. Stirr well daily once. 250 ml of the liquid manure can be applied to each plant that are flowering and fruiting. Magnesium Sulfate 1 gm in 200 ml water may be applied to each plant once in six months. This will enhance dark green colour to leaves.

Eco-friendly Neem based organic pesticides are recommended for using on Bonsai plants for better results.
